Another day of making sawdust. Had some neighbors over for brunch so I got a late start. It was after noon before I got everything uncovered, motorcycles moved
out of my building space and my brain in gear for an afternoon of lofting and cutting my Jumbo's stringers.
I honestly don't know why folks freak out about lofting. I think Renn's instructions are easy to follow and it's fun! I especially like bending a batton and drawing that nice curvey line.
After ripping the 2"x14"x17' laminated beam, lofting out the curved bit, and then cutting with the worm drive, I settled
down to some heavy duty planing. The stringers have a changing angle towards the bow and my power plane made short work of those angles.
I finished up with one of my handy dandy and sharp (as someone's tongue I know) block planes. I have three. I always have at least one of them with a freshly sharpened iron. It's way easier to smooth out the laminated beams with a sharp blade.
Will continue tomorrow and will try and get to the shelves. I'm draggin my feet on this part of the project...
While lofting and cutting wood today I had to heat up my epoxy again. Just when I thought winter was over we get a cold snap. I put the resin in our utility room sink and filled it up with hot water. Took three repeats to get rid of the crystallization.
