Tuna time.

 Ran out of the Columbia River and 'classic' you-should-have-been-here-yesterday. 'Jumbo Heavy' (i.e.: #500+ of ice) and bigger o/b (switched from Yamaha 100 to Suzuki 140) handled the weight just fine but running heavy/at speed came at a cost and burned more fuel. Oh well. Fished 5am to 5pm and managed 24 albacore. Build fast-go fishing sooner. B & B

 Was 45m out. Probably over-ran fish. Couple peanuts but average size #15 and couple #25 later in day. Some killer bite reports on iFish all down the Oregon coast. We're probably running next week and that's it. Bite spotty (fish stuffed on squid later in day so everyone complained) so trying rapalas to see if we can get into a steady pick as slow periods during the day really kills our 'slow-pick' routein as we catch-thump-tailrope-chill tank-fillet-bury 1g ziplocks in shaved ice. Bruce is a cleaning-machine. Picture is #20? blue-fin tuna (heard a couple others on radio and only 2nd one on our boat) we caught and didn't see it till looking at pictures. Dudh….B & B

 Ran again Wednesday and meet Dave with the J24 and they did 17 tuna. Did better this time and probably #140 meat. The run was 40m out and 12 hrs of trolling with 40g of fuel burned. B & B

I have been dealing with some personal stuff which has kept me grounded.  But my boat is almost ready and I am planning a couple of tuna runs this coming week. I am down to my last jar of tuna and I am Jonesing for a tuna fix! I am torn about whether to run out of Newport or Garibaldi, both look real good from the SAT photos and only forty miles out is sweet!

 Running Tuesday again. Last run  ;D. Read iFish on guys upping game as regular tuna clones not cutting it (we had just 1 on meatlines). Old reliable blk/purple jet-head skippy on outrigger saved the day again. I'm working on swimbaits and mega-baits and going all poles next trip (trolled at 4.5-5kts). B & B

  Introduced my neighbor Kyle to the 'Dark Side' on our 3rd and final tuna run of this season. Excellent weather and supposedly(Kyle kept count) did 30 fish. Should have switched to poles as the meatlines didn't really work. B & B

 Double bungii's and only one meatline fish yesterday. The Columbia River tuna usually turns into a tough bite later in the year but fish were line shy from the get-go this season. The purple/black 'black skippy' Sumo Jet-head M-18C was the 'money' lure this season and many others and bailed us out time-and-again. Ordering 10 more. Cleaned and vacume-bagged probably #170 of product today in 12-hrs. Glad to be done with tuna. B & B

 Said we wouldn't do it but hot bite we couldn't pass up and did 4th run. Probably spent 1/4 of the day 'not' fishing as we had too many fish in the slush or over the side on tailropes. Vacume bagged next day and canned the day after and finally at 10 o'clock wrapped up with easily #200 of meat. IF you're thinking about a run in SW WA or Oregon i'd highly recommend running. B & B
