Story from 1999 - 7 months of isolation in the Aleutians
« on: January 23, 2022, 06:16:16 PM »
Been a while since I stopped by the forum. This is Betsy, Renn's girlfriend and the supplier of his book to the world since he died.

My nephew found this Youtube video about being caretakers of a remote homestead for seven months way out on the Aleutian Islands in 1999. At 4:50 minutes in, the narrator talks about the Tolman Skiff that was on this island for his use,

“Of all the boats I’ve had the opportunity to use in my lifetime, I would say that boat is as fine as they come.”

Pretty cool.

Thanks for sharing, Betsy, great story.

Can you advise how many total books have been sold for these great boats?

Hi Betsy!

Thanks for posting! The video reminds me of how I felt when I first found out about Tolman Skiffs. Their really nice photos and story telling fits right in with the 'notable voyages' on the inside cover of the book... Build a better boat than you can buy!

No need to reply about the number of books sold... that's private info and as long as you are happy with us, it's your business (literally!). And if there is anything we can do to help, just let us know! I just ordered 3 more copies, so I hope that's useful.

I read the post with Dave Nolan's short story on Renn's school house; the more things change, the more they stay the same! Anyway, thanks again for posting.
best,
KenB
