Made It Chicago River
« on: August 24, 2020, 08:49:15 AM »
Spent the day on the Chicago River yesterday, cool trip and amazing architecture.

Passed through the lock to/from Lake Michigan, Mayor Lightfoot was on hand to with the lock operator to wish us safe passage!  Background story on how they reversed the flow of the Chicago River, https://www2.apwa.net/about/awards/toptencentury/chica.htm#:~:text=The%20reversal%20of%20the%20Chicago,drinking%20water%20supply%20%2D%20Lake%20Michigan.&text=It%20would%20do%20so%20by,backwards%2C%20away%20from%20the%20lake

St. Louis said no but it happened anyway.

On the way back to Indiana, passed by the Stewart Cort, empty and outbound from ArcelorMittal's Burns Harbor mill.  It was the first 1,000 footer on the Great Lakes.  Interesting story on this ship, we have seen it several places on the Great Lakes.  See http://www.boatnerd.com/pictures/fleet/cort.htm

thanks for the pictures!  I have seen some of those sites, but I would not have thought of going there in my own boat.
