Headed out the Golden Gate
« on: September 05, 2021, 08:23:50 AM »
For the first time in years I finally got my Tolman Skiff back on the Big Blue, and trolled for Salmon.

Launched in Benicia and made the 31 mile trip past Point Bonita. My first goal was to get the boat out, and second goal was to burn off as much stale fuel as I could. Both goals met.

Third goal was to troll for Salmon. Did that for a few hours around Duxbury for one take down and that was it.

Headed out to the radio fish and found a hundred boats trolling and mooching. I heard of an occasional radio Salmon, a few rock fish / ling cod reports and two conversations about Bonito aka cat food / fish bait.

Spent an hour trolling around dragging a silver Apex and a Red Whit Blue Apex for one epic weed fish.

Threw in the towel around 4:15 and headed back to Benicia. 79 miles, 21 gallons of gas and a Giant Smile on my Face.

It was a beautiful day on the water, and at one point it was glass on San Pablo Bay, and I matched speed with the Vallejo Ferry. All day, other than when trolling I sped around at 21-26 mph with a top speed of 36 mph.

The Suzuki DF140 ran flawlessly after a new water pump, internal zincs, thermostat etc.

The Yamaha T8 is complaining about fuel and I “think” I’m losing prime and suspect the hose / bulb. Luckily the Suzuki trolls just fine.

Awesome day!

WoooHooo.... nice to see you out Steve. Thought I knew the Bay? What ramp is that? The T-8 may just need some fresh gas? B & B

It’s the Benicia 9th Street Ramp. Nice and steep I don’t have to bury the rear wheels of the truck  like I do at the Benicia Marina. Free to launch too.

The T8 has fresh gas, I just think it’s losing prime. Will hook up to main tank and see if it’s happier.

The fuel bulb pumps up half hard? Ours is kinda weak but as long as vent open and no kinks it runs fine. Not that it's been run in a long time. Did Tuna run out Columbia River Aug. 14. Brutal over night run out (our usual) and at 50mile we shut down and drifted for a couple hrs near a commercial tuna troller. Should have started fishing earlier but at 6:30am before second rod was out we hooked up. Then steady pick with Bruce filleting to loins/bagged in ziplocks/buried in shaved ice till we plugged at 2pm while trolling home. Next day processed into vac-bags and following day canned 81 jars = 35 fish and #230 pounds of meat. After last years 2 skunk runs and 3rd with just #100 it was nice to score again. Bruce tied up with his wife's medical issues so I'm trying to make another run with neighbor but weather is a bit-h up here. Daylights Burning.......
