hi from Washington
« on: May 14, 2021, 11:31:34 AM »
Hi everyone,

First off, thank you for all of the information! We live in Washington and have a small spot on the coast so a Tolman is the perfect fit for our needs.  It will be awhile before I have the workshop built and everything needed to build our boat but right now I am working on the research and design part. This place has a ton of information and the boats are beautiful.  Right now it's pen to paper in prep for epoxy to wood.

Best,
Jake

Welcome aboard. Where are you located in Washington?

There's a J24 in Long Beach, just above Ilwaco. We meet him last year. It's built as a 'open' (small doghouse)so sure you can get some ideas from him. Let me know. B & B

Welcome! Don’t invest too much time into “pen to paper”. Your building process will evolve naturally and you will learn and get ideas along the way. Of course reading and research can be a lot of fun, but there is no need to be extra prepared.
Just decide on the length and general design, details can wait until you will flip.
Good luck! Peter

Just an observation but in our experience the standard way someone got the Tolman 'bug' was to actually checkout a build or do a test ride. I went to Steve Dampier's flipping party and was 'hooked'. Took 2 trips with my twin brother to get him bought into building. If I was in this area and thinking about building I'd find any local boats and go and see them. Here those sources would be a local fishing/hunting chat board (iFish.com) and of course FishyFish's Steve Dampier's chat board. B & B
