Hello from Lake Stevens WA
« on: April 18, 2022, 03:05:42 PM »
Hi all,

I'm another Washington member - just joined as my interest in the Tolman skiffs is getting more serious.  I picked up Renn's book years ago when I was looking at building a stitch and glue project.  I ended up spending a few years replacing the rotten coring in my 32' Bayliner instead - which gave me a lot of plywood/epoxy experience (well mostly sawzall and sander experience).  I divested myself of the larger boat and now I'm looking to build a bigger skiff for crabbing/fishing/camping in WA/OR/BC.  I have a 14ft aluminum boat that is too small for more than 2 people and gear - especially if I want to be out for more than a day or two.  The Tolman 20ft standard looks like a great option for me, and if it takes awhile to build that's OK.  I have to build some kind of shop in my yard for it anyway - my garage is too small for a project this size.  Anyway - looking forward to the discussions.

So I have a 16’ Devlin Candlefish that I use for crabbing, and am 80% done with a Jumbo, about one mile West of Snohomish.  Send me a PM if you want to visit, and a neighbor about a mile away has started a WB, and Cordell and Ron have a 28’ Jumbo just up the road, and Tom E. has Z beautiful Jumbo just waiting for a motor, and I just visited a very nice Jumbo in Silvana, and…
so where was I ?
Oh, yea, there are some boats in your neighborhood.  😉

My goal: 25' Jumbo

Think about stretching your standard to 21 feet. I feel that I gained capacity and just reduced wood scrap a bit.
