Dave Nolan was one of a kind. He and I started working together on different Army projects and through them became great friends. Like many others, he invited me out to go fishing on his 1st skiff in Raritan Bay for stripers. I’d never been out on the ocean fishing before that trip and was thrilled for the opportunity. I was amazed when I met him at the ramp and saw his skiff. Having grown up fishing in MN, it was incredible to me that people could actually build a boat and take it offshore. That trip is when he planted the seed in me about building a boat. That was May 2006.
Fast forward to June 2013, Dave took a week of vacation and flew out to Kansas to help jump start my build. I picked him up at the airport and we started construction on my hull kit from Salt Water Workshop about an hour after he landed. At the end of the week, documented on the forum, the hull was complete. Two years later I had my center console launched and have fished it hard and often ever since.
I’m going to miss my friend. I’m going to miss sharing fishing stories, sharing hunting stories, and sharing stories about our families the most. Dave always lived life to the fullest, was a loving husband and father, and a great friend.
There is a Celebration of Life party scheduled for December 21, 2021 at the Hilltop Inn, 825 Hilltop Rd, Elkton MD. The family is asking that instead of flowers they would like to have gifts donated to Boy Scout Troop 143 of Elkton MD in his honor. Dave was very involved in the Boy Scouts and was a committee chair in the troop.
