Home Depot 'Marine Ply' mystery solved...
« on: November 06, 2021, 07:12:46 AM »
For years I have seen 'marine ply' listed on the homedepot website with a SKU, etc. but it was never in stock. After a chat with a nice lady at the westerly store, it turns out that Westerly, Rhode Island has the only home depot in the nation that stocks marine ply:
Model #726532: https://www.homedepot.com/p/1-2-in-4-ft-x-8-ft-AB-Marine-Plywood-726532/202084531
Model #1204150: https://www.homedepot.com/p/3-4-in-x-4-ft-x-8-ft-AB-Marine-Grade-Plywood-Actual-0-734-in-x-48-in-x-96-in-1204150/314155349

She said they are constantly out of stock. Yesterday they got 30 more sheets of 1/2. The sheet at the Quincy store is a return.

I have had a long running argument with one of my buddies about whether decks should be 1/2" or 3/4" ply... I think if you glass both sides then 1/2" is enough. It's probably related to the classification of ladders (200lb class 3, 300 lb class 1), he's bigger than me and is grumpy that all my doghouse roofs are only 6'3" so he doesn't quite hit his head but its close. Anyway, now that 3/4" ply is cheaper than 1/2", he wins that tiff. I ended up renting a trailer at one home depot, driving the trailer to westerly, picking up my plywood, dropping it off at home, then returning the trailer. 300 miles round trip, but worth doing for marine ply at $100/sheet, never mind that I used my home depot credit card and I don't have pay for my $3000 in plywood until 2023. The last sheet of 3/4" AC I bought from a regular lumber yard was $150 and was shit quality (numerous voids).

The plywood looks ok! About the same as the arauco I bought from Lowes 10 years ago. No voids, B face has some fills so not technically marine ply. Anyway, mystery solved.

For those of you scoring at home, I have now bought 15 gallons of no-blush marine epoxy for $750, and enough marine plywood for 2 widebodies for $3000.  What year is this... 2012?

 Currently 3/4 = 79.00
Can't see 1/2 price though they have it on shelf.
Lowes is the worst at having price tags on lumber in the store- at least in my loc!
