I donated a copy of the Tolman Book to the museum, and have used it twice to... progress discussions.
The biggest hang up is that in traditional boat building, frames are used to create the hull shape and then planks are bent around those frames. So when the Tolman doesn't have frames and doesn't even have measurements in profile, that tends to make some folks concerned. Then, when I want to carve a half model, they get really upset. I think the idea that each Tolman has its own shape is a little scary; I just watched one guy do two rounds of faring compound on the bottom... that will get bottom paint.
But anyway it's all in good fun, after the article came out, Ed sent me a nice email: "fascinating stuff - wonderful to have found someone who "gets it."
